2022 Saint John the Evangelist – The Beloved Apostle

Saint John the Evangelist holds a special place in Christian tradition as one of the twelve apostles and a close companion of Jesus Christ. Often called “the beloved disciple,” he is traditionally associated with standing at the foot of the Cross and being entrusted with the care of the Virgin Mary.

According to Christian tradition, John endured persecution under the Roman Emperor Domitian. One famous legend recounts that he was thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil but miraculously emerged unharmed, after which he was sent into exile. His life and writings became enduring symbols of faith, perseverance and devotion.

Saint John is traditionally associated with the Fourth Gospel and the Book of Revelation.
